In today’s world it seems If you are part of a religion, people will judge you purely on those beliefs, which is wrong.
Being profiled only by your beliefs and not by who you are as a person, is offensive.
It’s understandable to label someone by their religious affiliation during their religious celebrations, but to marginalize them on a daily basis is when things have gone too far.
A great example of this would be the daily persecution of those who follow the Islamic faith.
I hear people say all the time “I don’t understand that language is it Muslim” or “my friend is Muslim they act like it’s a type of race” and that leads to more people using it to identify people. It often also happens with Jewish people like ” do you speak Jewish” and other things when Judaism is a RELIGION not a language and this is very common to this is mainly said Cristians who don’t understand other religions or just other people.
A way we can stop this is just keep it in your mind that way people and children don’t hear it and that way the problem dies down a little, and eventually goes away all together. Another way is educating yourself on the correct term, this one is super easy all you have to do is go to a reliable search engine (e.g. Google) and write down and start to memorize the correct terms that way that if a child overhears it they know the correct term instead of the incorrect term. The other way is to ask them politely what their language is if they’re your friend and you can still ask, I wouldn’t really recommend this to a random person on the street, as it may be seen as offensive. However, you can ask your friend and learn more about them that way which allow you to educate yourself more.
If your child overhears you using these terms, they’ll eventually start using them as a way just to describe that kind of person. instead of letting that fly, do the same thing you did to yourself and educate them on the correct terms.
There’s nothing worse than having generations of generations of people using incorrect terms. It might sound hard but it’s pretty easy, all you need to do is have a simple talk with your child about the correct way to use these terms. It is also recommended you teach them phrases too as to make sure they have a genuine understanding of when to use the words or not.
If your child is starting school, you should also teach them these things so they do not learn these things from other kids nothing’s worse than having your kids say to you “a kid in my class speaks Muslim” or something like that.
In conclusion you should also teach everyone else around you like on social media to about this. Share this article to anyone you know to make themselves educated, so that we can stop calling people by their religion once and for all.
